Most of the novel robhe-grillet taken up by exacting, detailed descriptions of various physical objects in the main characters’ vicinity, rapidly and with no indication shifting back and forth in chronological time. Robbe-grillet sto I don’t blame anyone for disliking this book. Or is this a snapshot from the past, a fragment of memory? Infinitejest rated it really liked it Mar 20, No one hears a thing. Some unforgettable scenes people behind a curtain in a high window and haunting portrayal of paranoia, suspicion, and perpetual search for identity, selfness, and the truth as it is. It will be easy for me because there are no people moving about the streets with the soldier.
The camera quickly pulls in on a particular object, staying with it through a long close-up. When it finally pulls back to a medium shot, the viewer realizes with a shock that the dns scene has shifted.
Wounded, suffering from exhaustion, prey to an ever-worsening fever, and aware that the enemy is about to enter the city, the soldier must find his way among the maze-like streets to deliver a package whose contents he does not know.
A simplistic plot less summary. While I can understand why many people would dislike this novel, I have always found it inspiring. The novel plays on the comforting expectations of the realist novel only to frustrate and finally overturn them.
You wander down the same streets, pass the same houses, in search of a meeting spot you cannot remember the name of for a purpose you can no longer recall.
Fitting the pieces of narrative and description together within me, as i encountered them, satisfied me.
